One of the many things that make Jeep such a beloved brand among active motorists is the variety of models they offer. The new 2018 Jeep Cherokee, now in Langley at Willowbrook Chrysler, occupies the middle ground in the legendary automaker's lineup. While the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee offer rugged, off-road specialized driving, and while the Jeep Renegade offers a thoroughly modern version of the classic Jeep utility model, the 2018 Cherokee is a vehicle that fits the needs of people who need all of those qualities together in one. The rugged bona-fides of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee are established right from the get-go when you look at the specs and understand its capabilities. Its available 3.2L V6 engine works in conjunction with the available Jeep Active Drive Lock 4x4 system - in the Trailhawk edition, a particular favourite of the staff here at Willowbrook Chrysler! - to offer drivers a best-in-class 4,500-lb towing capacity. The standard engine, offered in four of the model's five trims, is an able 2.4L Tigershark engine with VVT (variable valve technology), which delivers 198 hp working in tandem with a 9-speed automatic transmission, the first offered in its segment.
As part of its mandate to appeal to the near-full range of Jeep fans, the 2018 Jeep Cherokee has all of the interior and exterior features consumers in BC expect from their Jeep. Standard exterior elements include automatic headlamps, active grille shutters, an aerodynamic underbody design and a rooftop cargo management system. Some 2018 Cherokee trims also comes with or offer the option of adding heated exterior mirrors, a power liftgate and a CommandView dual-pane panoramic sunroof. Wheels are either 17 or 18 inches high, and buyers can choose one of up to six colours to personalize the exterior.
Jeep is offering three different 4×4 systems with the 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The 4×4 Cherokee Latitude, Cherokee Latitude Plus, Cherokee Limited, and Cherokee Overland trims comes standard with Jeep Active Drive I, a full-time 4×4 system that is always engaged to ensure proper handling in all driving conditions.
The Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk has a combination of 4×4 systems; its Active Drive I system is supplemented by Active Drive II, which features a low-range mode with a 56:1 crawl ratio for going low-speed traction off-road as well as a neutral mode. There's more: the Trailhawl features a third 4x4 system, Active Drive Lock, which can perform the tasks of the other two and lock up the rear axles in the drivetrain for off-roading.
You should not assume from this that the 2018 Jeep Cherokee is a bare-bones off-roader, because in reality it is anything but! Occupants enjoy a comfortable, entertaining and safe cabin environment thanks to the inclusion of a slew of latest-generation infotainment, drive assist and safety technologies, not to mention premium seating and high-end finishing elements throughout the interior. Standard equipment includes a 5-inch touchscreen display with Uconnect (standard on the Sport and North versions), integrated voice command with Bluetooth, an advanced multistage airbag system, stability and traction control systems, keyless entry, ParkView backup camera and much more. Among the options, blind spot and cross path detection, lane departure warning, park assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go and more.
